Nokia is all set to compete in the low to mid range Android Smartphone market in India with their latest additions, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6. Both of the phones are going to be on sale starting August but has a slight twist on their selling platforms.
The Nokia 5 is going to be on sale from 15th August 2017 but it will be an offline exclusive mobile phone, unlike the Nokia 6. So, that means, you cannot buy this mobile from any of the online available platforms. The cost for Nokia 5 is Rs12499.
It will be on sale across offline partners in many cities including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Calicut, Chennai, Chandigarh, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune. Eventually, more and more cities will get added to this list.
So, if you are not a resident of these above-mentioned places then you need to wait a bit till you can grab one of the handsets yourself.
Before we begin looking into the available features on this device, at first I want to congratulate Nokia for their comeback and taking up Android OS as we all tend to prefer it.
So, it sounds interesting and attractive indeed, but will it be as good in packing specs inside? Let’s check out.
Nokia 5 Features:
The Nokia 5 is a 5.2inch device with a polarized HD Display. It has a Corning Gorilla Glass protection over the screen. However, the version of the Corning Gorilla Glass is not disclosed by them.
The body is a metallic unibody with curved edges and polished look that gives you a premium feel when you hold it. It comes with 4 color variants: Tempered Blue, Silver, Matte Black, Copper. A 3.5mm Headphone Jack is also present.
Those who love a Front Fingerprint Sensor, you will be glad to know that Nokia 5 supports front faced fingerprint sensor. It is mounted with the Home Button.
It supports a 13MP Rear camera with Autofocus. Nokia says that with their wide aperture and dual tone flash and phase detection autofocus, you can take low light photography with ease.
There is a 8MP Wide angle lens camera on the front that you can use to take Group Selfies with ease.
It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 1.4Ghz Octa Core Processor with Adreno 505 GPU. I am very happy that they chose Snapdragon for their device, but, at the same time, I am kinda disappointed that they chose the 430 instead of 625 or 650.The RAM is just 2GB.
The RAM is just 2GB. In this case, I am just counting on the optimization of Nokia to get this device compete with the available devices on this range.
The internal memory is 16GB only, which is another downside I feel personally. 16GB is too short these days. However, it supports external SD Card of up to 128GB.
On the software edge, it runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. NFC is also present.
It is powered by a 3000mah battery.

Nokia 5 First Impressions:
Well, first things first. There is a ‘fanbase’ of Nokia in India, who are waiting for long to own a Nokia device. For them, let me tell you, that, Nokia mobiles are now released by HMD Global, a Finnish company. So, a lot of things have changed, both externally and internally.
If you count on the old Nokia phones and try to judge this based on its reputation, you may not be correct. In this comeback for Nokia, I am going to judge it only on the basis of its spec sheet and pricing.
Unfortunately, it isn’t hopeful that much.
Firstly, the choice of hardware, Snapdragon 430, and the choice of RAM+Storage: 2GB+16GB, itself reminds me of the Xiaomi Redmi 4, which costs Rs6999 only. And this one costs Rs12499. Its almost twice the price.
And, to be honest, Xiaomi mobiles are now stable and powerful today, works just fine, without any major issues.
So, I personally feel, if anyone has to buy a Nokia 5 just for the specs, then he should surely check out the Xiaomi Redmi 4. Otherwise, if someone is just choosing this device for the brand, it is just fine.
Anyways, here’s my first impressions about this device.
The first thing about it is that it is an Offline Exclusive in some limited cities only, so you can't order it online officially. The second thing about it is that they have packed no bad stuff, it is pretty clean with the processor, camera, battery, just the pricing simply does not suit it. Its highly overpriced. There are better alternatives available on that price range. Buy only if you are a Nokia Fan, otherwise not.
- Nokia finally taking up Android
- Front Mounted Fingerprint Sensor
- Good Camera
- Overpriced for the Specifications

Alternative Smartphone Suggestions:
If you ask me to suggest you alternative smartphones in this price range, I would recommend you to check out these two:
So that’s all on Nokia 5. If you seriously consider this to buy, then choose wisely thinking upon every aspect. This may not be the suitable phone for all.
On the other hand, if you are a Nokia lover and have been using any old Nokia device till now, then this device is surely a great choice for you to switch to Android. However, indeed there are better smartphones in this price range.
