The Chinese brand Honor, from Huawei, is in the mood of releasing devices in all price segments, right from the starting of the year. Just after launching their 2018 flagship Honor View 10, which combines a flagship processor and all latest flagship features, they are now gearing up for another smartphone, this time, for a more budget oriented users. Honor View 10 was an Amazon Exclusive, and this one, the Honor 9 Lite, is exclusive to Flipkart.
Honor 9 Lite pricing are as follows: 3GB+32GB Variant: Rs10,999 and 4GB+64GB Variant: Rs14999. Yes, that’s a steep pricing range for a brand in the budget segment. Hope Flipkart gives some discounts on this product.
Speaking of Flipkart, they are also becoming aggressive to launch mobiles right from as many brands as they can. A few days ago, they released the iVoomi i1, made for extremely budget cautious users, and now they are all set to handle the Honor 9 Lite.
The Honor 9 Lite is the company’s second quad-camera smartphone, after the Honor 9i, which also retails in Flipkart. Well, as of now, the pricing of the Honor 9 Lite isn’t revealed yet, but we believe it won’t be as costly as the Honor 9i. In fact, it can raise a competition among the sub-10k smartphones.
Going by the promotional banners of Flipkart, it is evident that they are going to launch to variants of the smartphone, one is going to come with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, while the other will pack 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It will be interesting to see their prices revealed, soon enough!
The first sale date of the mobile isn’t declared yet too. We will update this post with more details as we get.
So what does this budget-oriented smartphone from Honor pack inside? Let’s look into it.
Honor 9 Lite Features:
Coming to the build, it follows the footprint of the Honor 9i, with a 18:9 aspect ratio display, but the body is glass, both sides 2.5D curved. The frame is of aluminum.
Anyways, coming to the display it is 5.65 inches Full HD+ IPS Display. The 18:9 display they call a Full-View Display. Well, unlike Honor View 10, where they fitted the Fingerprint Sensor in the front itself, this device has got the fingerprint sensor on the back, similar to Honor 9i. The screen to body ratio is 75.5%.
There is a 3.5mm Headphone Jack support and a micro USB input. No USB Type C is supported, which is a letdown for me. I expect all good smartphones in 2018 should come with the USB Type C support. It weighs 149g.
Let’s go directly into the camera, which is one of the USP of this device. It supports dual cameras on both front and rear and both the cameras are 13MP+2MP. They should be able to take portrait shots using Bokeh mode on both front and rear. You can shoot [email protected] videos with this camera. It lacks any kind of video stabilization features.
However, Honor packs in some nice camera feature inside, including Gesture Control, Gender Beauty Mode, and Portrait 2.0, and Phase Detection Autofocus. They say the bokeh effects will be hardware oriented. Seems nice, but don’t expect too much of performance from these cameras. They are just budget oriented.
Let’s proceed to the processor. Honor 9 Lite is powered by Kirin 659 Octa Core Processor (4×2.36 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4×1.7 GHz Cortex-A53), with a 3GB and 4GB of RAM, depending on your variant. The GPU will be Mali-T830 MP2.
Honor 9i will support 2 sim cards, and obviously will support 4G VoLTE out of the box, but the sim slot is hybrid, meaning the secondary sim slot can be replaced with a micro SD Card. It can support an external storage up to 256GB if you need.
The battery is 3000mah only. Yes, even in 2018, battery department is still capped at 2016 or probably 2015. No matter how bigger batteries have come up, manufacturers are more inclined to reduce battery capacity to make room for making the device slim! You can, however, expect a full day’s usage out of it, very easily.
On the software front, it comes with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. But you won’t get Stock Android with it. You will get their own customized EMUI 8.0 above that.
Well, that sums up most of their features. All the regular stuff like Wifi, Bluetooth etc are present too. You can check them at the full specifications below.

Value for Money Device. With Dual Rear and Dual Front Cameras, this device should be one a good choice for occasional shooters, and with the large 18:9 display, Android Oreo out of the Box, you will be in for a nice treat. Well, I will recommend going for the 3GB Variant, as the 4GB Variant price difference is a bit too much.
- Dual Front Camera Support for Selfie Portrait
- 18:9 Aspect Ratio Display
- 3.5mm Headphone Jack Supported
- No Stabilization on Camera
Honor 9 Lite Alternatives:
Honor 9 Lite should directly compete with the Galaxy On7 Prime, which starts from Rs12999. Other than that, this is a direct competitor of the last year’s Redmi Note 4, until Xiaomi releases a similar handset this year.
